Prices
Recycling is all about collecting, delivering and reprocessing materials. The costs of recycling are usually either met from the sum the reprocessor receives for material or from a gate fee that is charged. The letsrecycle.com pricing section uniquely gives an online guide as an indicator to prices that may be paid for collected materials. We also show prices for some grades ex works, which means that the buyer will collect the material.

Landfill Tax
Generally prices are positive with the material having a value, but material values are heavily influenced by transport and processing costs so different amounts will be paid at different stages in the recycling chain. The Landfill Tax is also a factor because as the tax increases each April, it is having a knock-on effect for recycling, generally helping to make recycling more affordable. In April 2009 the tax was raised to £40 per tonne and will rise to £48 per tonne in April 2010.
PRNs
letsrecycle.com also gives current values for packaging waste recovery notes, or PRNs as they are commonly known. PRNs are issued by approved reprocessors who recycle packaging waste (paper, glass, plastic aluminium, steel and wood) as well as approved reprocessors who burn material in energy-from-waste plants.
