The metals recycling sector plays a major role in ensuring
that material is recycled from a wide range of sources. The primary sources
are white goods and end-of-life vehicles which includes cars, lorries and buses.
In 2007 the market saw prices remain consistently high and this had a knock on effect with the number of abandoned vehicles on streets falling.
Also of importance in the metals sector
is the recycling of aluminium and steel cans, both of which
are in demand and are sought under packaging waste regulations.
letsrecycle.com's news coverage and our metals pages bring full coverage
of vital policy issues influencing the way trade is
regulated along with pricing information. We also
report on the implementation by the Department for
Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform of the End of
Life Vehicles Directive which, from 2007, requires last
owners of cars to be able to dispose of their vehicles
free of charge.
We
also provide grades and specification information for
ferrous and non-ferrous materials as well as information
regarding the licensing of metal recycling sites.
The trade association for metals recyclers
is the British Metals Recycling Association and the
Motor Vehicle Dismantlers Association represents many
vehicle dismantlers.
