Win £1,000 in Aylesford Newsprint's Photo Competition

Now in its second year, Aylesford Newsprint's Wish you were recycling here photographic competition is once again offering all amateur photographers the chance to win £1,000 in travel vouchers. All you have to do is take photographs of recycling activities that fall into the following three categories:

  • GOOD
  • BAD
  • UGLY

This year we are looking for evidence of recycling activities both at home and abroad. So, there's no need to limit your photographic opportunities to high days and holidays - simply take your camera where ever you go and provide us with real, gritty recycling evidence. If it's good - we want to know about it. If it's bad - we should know about it. And if it's ugly - we (the recycling industry) ought to be doing something about it.

A fun competition open to anyone with an interest in recycling, it's up to you to decide what (or who) fits into which category. Photos can be from as far away or close to home as you like, but, as always, the judges' decision is final. And while you, the entrants, stand to win as much as £1,000 for a simple snap, we at Aylesford Newsprint continue to build a picture of what 21st century recycling is really like.

The winning photographer will receive £1,000 in travel vouchers. The two runners up will each receive £500 in travel vouchers.

The last date for competition entries is 31 August 2006. The photos will then be judged by a panel of industry representatives and the winners announced at RWM 2006. In the meantime, Aylesford Newsprint will be posting entries on the company website to keep you entertained.

Competition rules:

1. Pictures should be marked with your name and address, the category into which it is being entered, where the picture was taken, the date and a brief description of what you saw.
2. Entrants can submit as many pictures as they like
3. Entries should be emailed to recycling@aylnews.com or posted to Aylesford Newsprint Ltd, Recycling Department, Newsprint House, Bellingham Way, Aylesford, Kent, ME20 7DL
4. Pictures must reach us by 31st August 2006.
5. The judges' decision is final.

Show Gets Bigger And Better

In a significant development that is expected to lead to a much enlarged event, LAPV.co.uk, Local Authority Plant & Vehicles, the new website aimed at local authority and public utility executives and waste transport officers, is joining forces with letsrecycle.com Live! to offer a dramatically expanded outdoor section, named Lapv.co.uk Live! The move is expected to provide a substantial increase in the number of visitors to the Stoneleigh Park event, now in its second year.

The extended outdoor section is aimed at fleet and plant managers and operators, who will be able to watch live demonstrations of the latest plant and recycling vehicles, as well as workshops and seminars. "We were already anticipating a substantially bigger event than last year," says show director Steve Dickinson. "Now, under this new agreement, we anticipate an even larger number of exhibitors and visitors." Graham Bond, publisher of LAPV added: "We are excited to be part of this new and dynamic event. It will be of great interest to our users as it offers them a real chance to network and establish new business at a very realistic cost. We will do everything we can to help this event serve our community."

letsrecycle.com Live! will provide an unparalleled amount of information for visitors to this year's event, the first to see end-of-life vehicle recycling targets, a key topic of the two-day seminar programme.

Other topics include a look at the challenges of Defra's new draft waste strategy; the MBT agenda including outlets for material; how to enforce recycling by households; composting standards and outlets; increasing plastics recycling; and how to make landfill more sustainable. The full seminar programme may be viewed at www.letsrecycle.com/live, where show news is regularly updated.

Founding editor of the market-leading website letsrecycle.com, that now attracts 3,000 visitors* per day, Steve Eminton has played a major role in putting together the seminar programme, building on last year when speakers played to packed audiences. More information on the seminar programme may be found on the letsrecycle.com Live! web site - www.letsrecycle.com/live or by telephoning the ticket hotline on 08701 296987. Entry to the two-day event and all seminars is free.

Early Showcase

Announcing the change of name from Stoneleigh Live to letsrecycle.com Live! show director Steve Dickinson said: "The number of confirmed exhibitors for next year already exceeds those who booked for 2005. Among those who have already confirmed their participation are Agrivert, Biffa Waste Services, CIWM, Exel Environmental Compliance, JCB and Shanks Waste Solutions.

"Many exhibitors are attracted by the state-of-the-art centrally located venue, others by the affordable price and timing. letsrecycle.com Live! gives exhibitors the opportunity to showcase their products and services early in the industry calendar, which is an added bonus," he adds.

Four Months and Counting

With less than four months to go, the organisers of letsrecycle.com Live! are gearing up for a bigger show, with more exhibitors, more top-notch speakers and more pre-registered visitors than the event's debut in 2005.

The two-day event, re-named to build on the huge popularity of the letsrecycle.com website, returns to the National Agricultural Centre in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on 31st May–1st June with a more dynamic format to build on last year's success.

Founding editor of letsrecycle.com, which now attracts 153,000 page views* per month and 3,000 visitors* per day, Steve Eminton, has played a major role in putting together the seminar programme [see separate story] that last year played to packed audiences.

This year's show will have an overriding theme of 'recycling and waste management in action', with themed 'communities' covering specific subject areas, each supported by seminars and live demonstrations. In addition to industry-wide legislative issues, letsrecycle.com Live! will focus on materials (plastics, packaging and composting); product recycling (end-of-life vehicles, batteries and WEEE); and collection and materials handling (including health and safety).
