What do you mean by fun?

I thought they were to signify re-birth, a new beginning.

If the kids are only interested in one-upmanship in how much chocolate they can get then that isn't very satisfactory.

I shall be "sending" an older child a chicken from a charity as a more unusual gift. (I'm sure there will be enough chocolate around).  A different present like this for someone who is far more needy in another country will be much more interesting and hopefully will provoke more thought and conversation instead of just personal indulgence during this holiday season.
