Understanding the criteria for Pickles' £250m Fund

Posted by Eunomia at February 15. 2012

The Weekly Collection Support Scheme has been one of the big news stories of the last couple of weeks. There has been a welcome for the inclusion of food waste collections within its scope - but have you looked closely at the criteria? Together with my colleague Chris Sherrington, I've done a bit of analysis on what the criteria will mean in practice. You can see the results here:

Environmental and financial considerations were to be expected - but what about the new collection comprehensiveness hierarchy? How does that fit with the waste hierarchy? And does it really give food waste collections a fighting chance?

This time one of my colleagues has taken a look at what councils are saying about the Fund and how they propose to respond. It's going to be interesting to see what range of proposals come forward - especially what kinds of "innovations" are proposed.
