recycling polyurethane foam

My company generates clean polyurethane foam as waste from its processes. Despite numerous attempts I cannot find a "Taker" that can make use of the foam. It comes baled and free of charge but must be collected. Any ideas

Abra as far as I know (and I have been down this route a number of times) unles you have invested in a briquetting machine which makes the transportation costs viable you stand little chance of finding a taker. However when briquetted the material has a high thermal co-efficient and can be used in efw plants.

wWe can and do granulate it for our own use, but to do this to all our waste would be too costly.

What volume do you have, in terms of bale weight and numbers and how often? What is your location? What is the foam waste a result of (what would the foam be used to make?). Thanks.

We may be able to arange for it to be recycled for you but we would need a sample to send to our contractors and you may need about 15 tons for us to be able to get it collected free of charge. Contact us on Sue@rabbittrecycling.co.uk

You could try Vitafoam based in Manchester http://www.vitafoam.co.uk/. Although they manaufacuture new foam they also recycle offcuts of new foam and have recently they have been looking into a variety of different new technologies to reprocess post consumer foam.

Hello, i appreciate that you posted this in 2006 but i am hoping my stab in the dark will pay off. I am a student at University of the Arts London. I make sculptures using polyeurathane foam. I usually mix two components together to generate my flexible foam sculptures. I am in my final year and would like to work on a larger scale and so i am looking for polyurethane that i can use for this purpose. I am happy to arrange collecting if you still have some.

Hi Enya,
Our company in South Bermondsey produces lots of waste from the polyurethane foam we use and we're keen to find people who will take it off us. How much would you be able to collect? or if it's easier (and you want a lot) we may even be able to arrange delivery for you.

Hello patchworkcarpets and others.

I’m Antoine, from Richardson’s Ltd (www.richarsonsltd.co.uk)

As a company making surgical mattress and located in Liverpool, We do have foam scrap as well which may interest you.

These scraps are from a lot of different density (and so colour) from 28 to 52 kg/m3 .

We produce about 1 ton a month of such scrap.

We would be pleased to collaborate with you in order to recycle such scraps, in the framework of economical and ecological benefits.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Regards,

Antoine

Try to get in touch with company that covert waste to energy. These are type of materials they need to at least generate biogas. Sometimes, they may hard to find, but mostly they are the waste taker of big industrial and manufacturing firms.
