Winners of the 2006 Awards for Excellence in recycling and waste management were announced at a ceremony in London on October 12 2006 by BBC news presenter Kate Silverton.
The winners were:

  • Retail Recycling Champion

  • Commercial Recycling Champion
    Winner: Chris Shoel and the Green Team, Coca-Cola, Milton Keynes sponsored by Valpak
  • Commercial Waste Management Initiative
    Winner: Midland Mainline sponsored by Shanks
  • Innovation in Design of a Waste Management Facility
    Winner: Veolia Environmental Services sponsored by ESTET
  • Collection Crew of the Year
    Winner: David Haggard, Mick Walford and Jack Caress, Community West Recycling Partnership, Doncaster sponsored by SITA UK
  • Resource Management Industry and Local Authority Partnership
    Winner: Bolton MBC with Paperchase and UPM Shotton sponsored by PaperChain
  • Civic Amenity Site of the Year
    Winner: Leicestershire CC's Loughborough Waste Site sponsored by Biffa Waste Services and W&S Recycling
  • Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative
    Winner: Preston city council and Lancashire county council sponsored by Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe
  • Local Authority Recycling Champion
